Prayer

Prayer is another important part of the church, and certainly makes a difference in the life of the church. Prayer is often descibed as the boilerhouse of the church, being vital in powering all we do. We have weekly early morning prayer meetings and monthly half nights of prayer. We start each new year with a week focussing on prayer. As part of this we spend a couple of nights praying for and prophesying to each other.

For the half-nights we take over most of the rooms in a house; there is continuous worship in one room, a series of prayer meetings on specific topics and various prayer activities in other rooms. We regularly prayer walk the local area asking God to bless the local community, and praying for the local people.

Prayer often goes hand in hand with fasting. Fasting is an important Christian discipline. It acts as a physical and spiritual statement of humbling ourselves and denying the flesh, and heightens our spiritual sensitivity.

There are a number of really exciting prayer initiatives taking place at the moment, and we want to be as fully involved as we can be. This year's Global Day of Prayer was celebrated at Millwall Football ground, on Pentecost Sunday. Last year, 2007, was also a Year of Prayer for London. Churches were invited to take a day to spend 24 hours praying for London. We had two tremendous days of prayer, culminating in a House of Prayer for the last part of the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to serve this great city in prayer.
